The
third stage crosses the northern part of the highlands of
Lavarone and Luserna, before roaming the mountain pastures
of Vezzena to reach the Cimbrian oasis of Luserna.
From Carbonare (1074 m) the itinerary follows paths with a
distinct historic flavour, such as the "SENTIERO DELLA
PACE" (path of peace), the "TRAVERSATA DEI
FORTI" (tour of the forts) and the "SENTIERO
EUROPEO" (European path). In fact, you travel near
the remains of the "COMMANDO AUSTRIACO" (Austrian
command centre), from where the military operations of the
entire highland were co-ordinated, to join the military roads
of the Val Carretta and head towards the "CIMITERO
DI GUERRA AUSTROUNGARICO" (Austro-Hungarian war cemetery)
of Slaghenaufi (1246 m). A forest path penetrates the Lavarone
highland and, after getting onto the provincial road no. 133,
continues towards Monterovere (1255 m). In front of the Monterovere
Hotel the "SENTIERO DELLA PACE" begins for
the Baita del Cangi (1370 m) and the path near the Ponte Alto
(1468 m). From here you can reach, along a military mule track,
the panoramic summit of the Pizzo di Levico (1908 m), where
there are the remains of the "FORTE SPITZ VERLE".
You pass by the ruins of the "FORTE BUSA VERLE"
(1500 m) to reach the Passo Vezzena (1404 m). After crossing
the main road, you enter the Veneto region, passing to admire
the Malga Basson di Sopra (1491 m), Malga Busa Biseletto (1416
m), Malga Bisele di Sotto (1364 m) and, remaining on the Val
Morta road, sign-posted 621B, the ex Malga Croier (1302 m).
After rounding the corner of Monte Campo, you descend to Luserna
(1333 m). This village represents an ethnic-linguistic island
that preserves the Cimbrian culture, the result of German
colonization that occurred in the border territory between
the Trentino and Veneto regions. The "HAUS VON PRUKK"
and the "CENTRO DI DOCUMENTAZIONE" (documentation
centre) house many reminders and evidence of the Cimbrian
life and culture. |
