This
stage crosses the karstic highlands of Folgaria and Lavarone
that have remained unspoilt even though they are popular tourist
resorts.
From Gionghi (1170 m), one of the twenty hamlets that form
the municipality of Lavarone, you arrive at the nearby small
Lake of Lavarone, a splendid reservoir that occupies the bottom
of a karstic doline formed 2200 years ago. With a moderate
spurt you reach the summit of Monte Rust (1282 m), where there
are the remains of the "OSSERVATORIO MILITARE"
(military observation post), that was used by the imperial
troops to communicate optically with the various forts of
the highlands. From here, in fact, there is an excellent view
of the Veneto plain and the Brenta and Adamello mountain ranges.
You then reach Carbonare (1074 m), hamlet of the municipality
of Folgaria, which, orographically, is part of the Bacchiglione
catchment basin. The next part crosses the ample plain of
the Fiorentini dominated by "FORTE CHERLE"
(1445 m) to arrive at the source of the Astico torrent. The
route then passes the locality of Segheria dei Mei (1300 m),
the hamlet of Perpruneri (1270 m) and then along the main
road San Sebastiano (1300 m). Pass the watershed represented
by the Passo del Sommo (1343 m), and then you gain altitude
over the south face of the Vigolana massif, locally called
Scanuppia. The highest point is Malga Cornetto di Dietro,
near the arrival point of the disused Cima Tre chair lift
(1597 m). From here the SAT trail 451 reaches the Rifugio
Paradiso (1631 m). There are several options for reaching
Folgaria (1166 m), but we suggest following the trail 425
that overlooks the gorge of the Val di Gola. We recommend
a visit to the "CHIESETTA DI S. VALENTINO"
near the hamlet of Carpeneda. |
