| This
stage reaches the maximum altitude of the entire proposed
route, the "PORTE DEL PASUBIO", an area that
the Royal decree no. 1386 of 1922 established as sacred as
it is an emblematic place of the Italian front military events
of the First World War. From the hamlet of Foxi (647 m) you
reach the Passo Pian delle Fugazze (1162 m) along the state
road no. 46 that is the departure and arrival point of this
excursion ring. This ring is formed firstly by the "Strada
degli Eroi" (heroes' road), constructed by the Italian
military engineers in 1938, arriving at Porte del Pasubio
where there is the Rifugio Achille Papa (1929 m). It then
goes around the mountain subgroup of Forni Alti along the
Scarubbi road to reach the Colle del Xomo, returning to Paso
Pian delle Fugazze by rising up the Val Leogra. From the Rifugio
Achille Papa you can follow the tricolour path on foot that
takes you to the summit plateau of MONTE PALON (2232
m), the highest point of the massif. From Passo Pian delle
Fugazze you quickly reach the "SACRARIO MILITARE DEL
PASUBIO" (1217 m), then return to the Pass and proceed
towards the Passo di Campogrosso in the Carega range. Its
best side faces the Veneto region, being so spectacular as
to have attracted the attention of the famous architect Andrea
Palladio. From the Rifugio Campogrosso (1456 m) you can descend
on foot from the central part of the Carega towards the Leno
torrent (maps available on the market indicate this as Cima
Posta, another nearby elevation of the range but to the north-west).
Cross the watershed of the Val Gerlano carefully and then
proceed along the provincial road no. 89 on the left side
of the Leno, passing the hamlets of Ometto (1000 m), Obra
(940 m), to reach Riva (716 m). In this hamlet there is the
possibility of staying overnight and visiting the highly interesting
"MUSEO della CIVILTA' CONTADINA" (museum
of the farming culture). |
